We were contacted by these clients during their remodel for a site that needed a full overhaul and fresh start. Our design focus was to incorporate some modern features without overshadowing the traditional elements that tied into the architectural character of the neighborhood. In the front, we addressed the sloping yard by building the sidewalk up and creating an entrance threshold with new brick walls. The walkway up to the front door incorporated a staggered sand wash approach that injected a subtle touch of modern design. The lawn layout and planting schemes are very organic and fits in well with the neighboring homes. The long and narrow backyard posed some unique design challenges for our team. Privacy was created using a custom steel planter with a beautiful Laurel hedge that creates a very soft buffer from inside and on the patio. Along with a sunken Spa with IPE deck surround, we set a circular firepit natural gas at the end of the backyard to offer several seating areas that can comfortably cater small or large gatherings.
